We all dream of a world where you can throw a massive house party, pass out and wake up to a spotless house. Now, unless you have an OCD nocturnal roommate, that’s not going to happen. But then again, it just might. One day, flying robots will clean the house as you slumber. Yebo, yes.
Designer Adrian Perez Zapata, 23-years-young, has come up with “Mab”, which is a short name for a system whereby hundreds of mini flying robots that get loaded with cleaning solution and fly around your home happy to do the dirty work. The concept project was submitted to the 2013 Electrolux Design Lab competition. The theme there this year is “inspired urban living”, so graduates and undergraduates have been submitting design solutions in the categories of social cooking, natural air and effortless cleaning.
With the Mab, you will have to fill up the robot’s spherical core with cleaning liquid, which is then distributed to 908 solar-powered mini-robots, equipped with propellers for flying. After that, the mini-robots take off and scan your house for dirt, capture it with fluid droplets and carry it back to the core.
The Mab will join the ranks of other automated robot cleaners such as the Roomba and the Winbot. Check out the concept designs below.
