Oprah Winfrey’s recent visit to Switzerland for Tina Turner’s wedding resulted in an Zurich shop assistant refusing to show the queen of talk a bag because it was “too expensive”, according to the shop assistant.
Winfrey explained the racist incident in an interview on Entertainment Tonight. Winfrey said:
Racism for me doesn’t show itself that way. It still exists.
Obviously, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” is not shown in Zurich.
I say to the woman, https://www.buyativanstore.com “Excuse me, may I see that bag right above your head?” And she says to me, “No, it’s too expensive”. She refused to give it to me.
Switzerland’s tourism office has apologised for the incident. Spokeswoman for the tourism office Daniela Baer said:
We are very sorry for what happened to her.
