Ads are everywhere nowadays. You can’t get away from them. But they had to start somewhere. This ad for Bulova, a watch and jewellery company, aired in the US on 1 July, 1941. Only 10 seconds in length with only five words spoken, this is the world’s first television commercial.
The spot cost Bulova a whopping $9 at the time and only reached, at best, a few thousand people – only 4,000 TV sets had been installed in New York at that time.
Enjoy!
