Investigative journalist Brian Krebs often publishes articles about the online criminal underground. And when your job entails investigating illegal activity and ruffling the wrong feathers, it will very often put you in awkward situations.

Krebs has endured a string of harassments including a SWAT team being called to his house after a tip was received claiming an armed gunman was inside the house.

Krebs’ most recent harassment however took place when Flycracker, a Russian criminal, crowdfunded to purchase heroin on Silk Road. The gram of heroin was then sent to Krebs’ home after Flycracker had contacted the police to inform them that Krebs was a drug trafficker. Through the crowdfunding, a total of two Bitcoins were raised, equal to $200 (R1,975).

But Krebs was tipped off because of his presence on the platform that formed the drug trafficking plan, and he alerted the local police as well as the FBI. Krebs said:

A thin package containing what appears to be packets of some white powder was delivered to my doorstep Monday, a day earlier than Flycracker had told his buddies that it would arrive. The package was hand-delivered by our local postal carrier, sent in a thin USPS Express Mail envelope that was postmarked from Chicago. Inside was another blank envelope containing a May 2013 copy of Chicago Confidential, a weekly glossy magazine from the Chicago Tribune.
