It’s been just over a month since the last TBG (Tall Blonde Guy) sighting – that magical moment experienced by 2oceansviber Barry, at the Biscuit Mill. A certain calm has once again descended upon Cape Town, and anyone who attended this year’s Rocking the Daisies festival will agree that the same aura was felt in and around the town of Darling. It’s little wonder we received this latest TBG Sighting.
This, from SG vdh:
Weird and wonderful things happened to me this weekend out in the daisy fields near darling. It started with a rather cramped ride in the back of a bakkie and a lot of setting up of tents. Next thing you know I’m singing along to the Tidal Waves and generally being anything but sober. After a great Hudson’s burger or six, and an insanely mind blowing dub step session in the double dome jumping castle of an electro tent, I think I went to bed. The next day was spent burning up and burning down next to the dam which was, how do you say, playing lake-lake.
As the sun went down and the vibes came up and New Holland went abso-freakin-lutely insane, we thought we were in for another night of absolute vibe.
But what happened next was something well beyond our wildest imagination. Better than an all girl indie rock band. Better than a dude from Mr Cat and the Jackal playing a saw as an electric instrument. Better than tequila cocktails in the Cuervo tent. And dare I say better than anything else. Ever.
In between dance tents and in an all round state of general limbo, we were wondering around trying to find something new and exciting. Then there he was. 18 foot tall and as beefy as Serena, he stood next to a technicolour windmill. Next thing I know, I’m in a wave made out of plastic bottles posing for a photo standing on a surfboard and TBG is surrounded by the girls that I thought were with me.
I must confess that if I wasn’t ushered in to the wave so quickly I would have been joining in the (attempted) orgy. Unfortunately all I have to show for my encounter is this dooshy photo of me in the wave. But my friends got this awesome photo of my idol, and were (clearly) very ecstatic about it. I now have this photo framed in my pool room, even though I didn’t crack the nod, and it is my pride and joy. TBG – you are a great man and seeing you literally made my life.
Unbelievable scenes..
Thanks for that, SG.
