An 11-year-old football fan named Charlie Silverwood got way more than he bargained for when he went to watch a game recently. Cristiano Ronaldo hit a free kick during a friendly between Bournemouth and Real Madrid on Sunday, but Ronaldo’s free kick left Silverwood with a broken wrist.
Silverwood said:
It’s one of the most spectacular ways you can get your arm broken. I’d have to say I’d prefer doing it this way then just falling out of a tree like my dad did it.
You wouldn’t expect this to happen to anybody. If I hadn’t put my left hand up, took the brunt of the force on my palm, I’d have ended up with no front teeth.
Charlie’s dad, Lee Silverwood said:
One minute we were watching Ronaldo stand over the ball and the next it was flying towards Charlie.
Charlie did receive some memorabilia though. The boy received a signed shirt from Real Madrid which they sent via Steve Fletcher, a Bournemouth player. The Bournemouth team also gave him a signed ball.
