It seems impossible to glance through Twitter or Facebook and not see any news regarding the royal baby popping up. As soon as Kate was admitted to hospital with early signs of labour, the baby news has not stopped. So if you are not all that interested in following every detail, try these steps to royal baby-proof your computer.

Facebook and Twitter

The people that created Unbaby.Me which allows users to hide things relating to their friends infants on Facebook and Twitter now has the Chrome extension Unwhatever.Me. This allows you to block certain things from Facebook and Twitter simply by adding keywords, ensuring you see only what you choose to see.

Writer Alexis Kleinman tested it out. Kleinman blacklisted the following terms: “royal baby, #royalbaby, middleton, prince william, heir”. These keywords were replaced with the keyword “goldendoodle”. The result was that when Kleinman searched “#royalbaby” on Twitter it was replaced with Instagram pictures that had the tag “goldendoodle”.

Gmail

Are you receiving emails providing you with every picture and news update about the royal baby? Simply filter out these emails that are cluttering your inbox. When you are in your inbox, click on the gear button (it looks like a bolt) in the top right of the screen. Select “Settings” from the drop down menu.

Once you’re in “Settings” click on the “Filters” tab at the top. Then click “Create a new filter”. Select the keywords that you would like to have filtered and enter the words or phrases in the “Has the words” and “Subject” fields. After that click “Create filter with this search”.

Once you have done this you will be provided with options of what to do with the emails that contain the filtered words. You can delete them, archive them, mark as read or forward them. Once you have chosen the path for your emails click “Create filter” and your filter has been set up.

The Guardian

The online British news website has obviously been reporting on any news regarding the royal baby. But the site also understands that this news may not be for everyone and have therefore given readers the option to turn off any news relating to the royal baby. On the home screen of the British version (url ending with co.uk) of The Guardian site click “Republican?” and all royal baby news will be removed from the homepage.
