1) Pot luck Club – Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock
A Luke Dale-Roberts masterpiece. Food served in small portions (order at least 3-5 per person). Some reviews on the internet reckon they are pretentious and expensive. These people don’t realise that food of this calibre will (and should) come at a premium.
2) Mano’s – Green Point
The who’s who of Cape Town business do lunch here and the food is always great. You can’t book and they are well priced. They serve everything from schnitzel (bang an egg on it, if you want) to steak and calamari. Alon (sitting at the first table on your left) goes for the Ceasar salad with extra chicken and avo. Then baked potato with sour cream and smoked salmon on the side.
3) Diaz Tavern – City Bowl
Best prego in Cape Town. Known as the Portugese Embassy.
4) Planet Restaurant at Mount Nelson
Fine dining without the fuss.
Best sushi in Cape Town. Try the 4X4, as well as the Crispy Rice salmon, the Rainbow Reloaded and the edamame beans.
6) Carne – Keerom Street near high court
Home grown, best meat cuts in town.
7) Baia (pronounced “buy-here”) – V&A Waterfront
High-end, world class seafood, with prices to match. Try the whole baby kingklip. Shellfish platters to die for.
8) Satano – Mouille Point
Cape Town’s number 1 for Mediterranean. Big wine emphasis.
9) Magica Roma – Pinelands
Best Italian restaurant in Cape Town. Try Enzio’s special anti-pasti starter platter. Ask Enzio to make it for you. In fact, he will make any pasta for you. If it’s good enough for Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, it’ll be good enough for you. Warning – closed in December (that’s how good they are). Booking compulsory.
10) Superette at Woodstock Exchange
Enjoy the ceiling garden. View the hipsters. Eat the All Day Breakfast Sandwich.
