A new hobby normally takes you a while to get into, but Wesley Carrington has been struck with that good old beginner’s luck.

On his first metal detecting escapade, in a field near St. Albans in Hertfordshire, England, last October, the Brit literally struck gold in just a few minutes. The story that came out yesterday gave us insight into the treasure hunt. After unearthing a spoon and a half penny, his third find came in the form of gold Roman coins, worth over R1,5 million.

According to the Daily Mail the 159 coins found were ancient Roman solidus and the largest group of gold coins found in England. Carrington found 55 and later on a group of experts found the next 104.

The coins will be sent to the British Museum for “official appraisal” and then shall be auctioned. Carrington has since joined an actual metal detecting club to see what his luck will bring him next.

Carrington hasn’t found anything since that fateful October day.
