American actor Danny Glover and Bob King the president of the United Automobile Wokers’ Union of America were invited by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa to the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) rally in Johannesburg on Thursday. Glover spoke in front of the crowd, telling them he supported them.

I’m here on behalf of all the workers in Mississippi. We are all supporting each other, we must stand together. Amandla!

Popcru are rallying in all provinces except Mpumalanga, demanding the South African Police Service (SAPS) “honour an agreement to change administrative staff salary grades.”

Jeff Dladla, the unions KwaZulu-Natal chairperson, said that salaries need to be increased and that they would not accept employers claiming they have no money. Dladla said:

We are not going to sleep as our members are earning peanuts…This is just the beginning. We are giving the employer 14 days to respond. If they fail, we will march in Pretoria and Cape Town.

There’s no amount of intimidation that will stop us from fighting for our rights.
