Motion control technology now allows Google Earth users to use their hands to control the imagery software, which sounds superficially boring, until you consider that you now have the option to fly over mountains, seas and cities with the swoosh of a hand.
Google announced yesterday (on Earth Day) that they had partnered with a 3D motion control provider, Leap Motion to develop the improved user experience. But like all good things, it doesn’t come free. In fact, it comes at a fairly hefty price. You’ll need to buy the Leap Motion controller for $80 (R740). The controller comes with software that syncs the hardware to Google Earth.
And there’s a waiting list. The controller will only be available to the Leap Motion developer community first, all 10,000 of them.
