If you missed the Mail & Guardian Newsroom show on 2oceansvibe Radio, don’t dispair.
We have the podcast of this week’s Mail & Guardian Newsroom show for your analytical pleasure. Feel free to listen on the page, or download for later listening.
Online arts editor Lisa van Wyk made a return and was joined by first-time on air presenter Faranaaz Parker.
The two started the show by dissecting the big news stories from the newspaper with editor-in-chief Nic Dawes. He spoke about Wilfred Napier’s comments that he can’t be accused of homophobia because he does not know any homosexuals. Napier, as expected, has since said that he was misquoted.
Nic discussed South Africa’s involvement in the battle that toppled the former president of the Central African Republic (CAR), François Bozizé. It has now laid bare the country’s cold war with France for control of Francophone Africa.
And fallout from the battle of the CAR capital, Bangui, now the subject of official enquiries, may result in that war heating up.
In the Africa slot, amaBhungane’s renowned investigative reporter Sam Sole told Lisa about Israeli firm Nikuv’s involvement and influence in the Zimbabwe elections.
This week’s Weekly Choon was Eighties by Killing Joke which was dedicated to everyone who seems to have been brought back to life after Margaret Thatcher’s death. We’re talking about those planning to protest at her funeral to the news stations getting a kick from replaying old videos of the Iron Lady hobnobbing with Reagan and Gorbachev.
Then in our culture segment the M&G’s very own fashionista, Sthembile Gasa reviewed the best and worst from SA Fashion Week.
Missed the show? No problem. Join Amanda Strydom, Nickolaus Bauer, Mmanaledi Mataboge and Verashni Pillay next week at the same time for an hour of insight and analysis from the people who break the news. Expect big investigative stories, business insight, interviews with the people who make the big decisions, and the finest in arts and culture coverage.
