HBO with Game of Thrones has now partnered with New York craft beer genuises, Brewery Ommegang to produce a range of beers based on the acclaimed television series. March saw the release of the first beer in the line, called Iron Thron Blonde Ale just in time for the much anticipated season three premier.
HBO Global Licensing explained the partnership this way:
The collaboration between Ommegang and HBO is focused on developing truly unique beers that directly tie into themes, characters and nuances of the series of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and surrounding kingdoms.
By the tears of Sean Bean, we’re grateful to HBO for giving us a better alternative to Parlotones wine. Iron Throne Blonde Ale can be bought in a 750ml bottle for around $8,50 per bottle and according to Paul Schrodt of Esquire it is “extremely easy-drinking: malty, vaguely fruity, a little spicy, but nothing overpowering. It goes down especially smooth for being 6,5%.”
What do mean it isn’t overpowering? If it’s from Game Of Thrones, I kind of half expect not to have a throat after drinking that, and I’d kind of be half disappointed if I still did.
Of course, if you can’t get your hands on a case of Iron Blade Thorn juice, or whatever, we find a tipple of Jack Black or &Union goes down, just fine, thank you.
