The cover of the latest Rolling Stone
As seen on an iPad near you..
True Blood Fans Get It All – Just in case you didn’t work out what the real attraction for women is, when it comes to TV show True Blood, it’s the connection between teeth, blood and sex. I gotta say, I love the way you girls out there simply call it your “love for vampires,” but it is, in actual fact, the sex and the blood side that’s doing it. You’re crazy. Seriously, you chicks are crazy. I mean seriously, the cover of Rolling Stone?! Nice – let’s go with this.. [rollingstone]
A Quick Discussion About The Government And The SABC – As the ANC and media continue to trade blows, there’s a glaring omission in the ruling party’s posturing against the press. It is, of course, the SABC, which makes the ANC-run government one of the biggest media owners in the country – even though this media asset has been eroded by years of mismanagement. You better believe it. [dailymaverick]
Suicide Suspected In Weakest Link Host’s Death – The death of South Africa’s Weakest Link quizmaster Fiona Coyne, 45, was suspected to be a suicide, a family spokesperson said on Wednesday. “At this stage it is a suspected suicide, but until the official investigation is complete we cannot say for sure that is the case. No foul play is suspected,” said Kee-Leen Irvine. “Her family are all in a deep state of shock and have requested the media respect their privacy in this difficult time.” [news24]
Barack Obama Is Cool With His Mosque Decision – For those of you who’ve just tuned in, US Supremo, Barack Obama, recently okayed the idea of a mosque being built right next door to ground zero. Negativos, like Sarah Palin, reckon it is “insensitive.” This apparently to do with the fact that the towers were taken down by “radical islamists.” So ja, a bit of a tangle Barack is in at the mo. No-one said this job would be easy, ou pel! [nbc]
North Korea Joins Twitter And Youtube – No Spice – North Korea’s propaganda campaign has surged into the 21st century with a new Twitter account. The secretive regime has begun micro-blogging under the name @uriminzok, with a number of posts pointing its few dozen followers to anti-Seoul and anti-US statements on the country’s official website. South Korea blocks the site and few in North Korea have access even to a computer. Our Dear Leader is so progressive! [telegraph]
Steve Tyler Joins Idols – The Aerosmith frontman finalized negotiations late last week to serve as a judge on the tenth season of Fox’s hit reality singing competition, which recently lost high profile judges Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres. Fox declined ABCNews.com’s requests for comment. With his penchant for oddball fashion, Tyler would certainly serve as the spectacle “Idol” has lacked since Paula Abdul left her judge’s seat in 2009. Tiger Woods Is Over – He’s finished. He’s not catching Jack Nicklaus. He’s won what, fourteen majors? Well, that’s what he’ll stay on for the rest of eternity. It’s a shame, because he has put his entire being into chasing Nicklaus, and we, as fans, have followed him for over a decade assuming that the record would eventually be in his grasp, and sooner rather than later. It’s frustrating to get to this point and think that we’ll never reach that moment with Woods. But we never will. There are a few reasons why. [nymag]
Georgia May Jagger’s latest campaign for Hudson Jeans is out – Is your initial reaction: 1. No amount of side-boob will ever convince me that buttons on the bottoms of jean legs is a good thing. 2. Why is she wearing a G-string made of chains? Or is that some kind of (supposedly) hot new belly-chain-meets-thong contraption? 3. If they had to put a belly chain on her, couldn’t they have let the leftover chain hang somewhere other than directly in the middle of her lower back? [nymag]
Hollywood In A Mild Panic About Google TV – Many worry that Silicon Valley will upend the entertainment industry just like the Internet ravaged the music and newspaper industries. The search giant is touting an ambitious new technology, called Google TV, that would marry the Internet with traditional television, enabling viewers to watch TV shows and movies unshackled from the broadcast networks or cable channels on which they air. I must say, I can see that working. [latimesbusiness]
Let’s Jump Aboard A Russian Billionaire’s $300 Million Yacht – The interior of Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichencko’s 394-foot yacht has never before been viewed by the public — until now. The Wall Street Journal gained unprecedented access to tour the ship, called the ‘A,’ which reportedly costs more than $300 million. Designed by Phillipe Starck, the “A” features luxuries like a glass-bottomed pool built atop a disco or a plush room with walls covered in stingray hides. Shame. [huffers]
Rare Marilyn Monroe Photographs Go On Display – Eight previously unpublished pictures of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe have gone on display. Some of the limited edition prints, which are up for sale, reveal a different side to her blonde bombshell image. Taken by American photographer Eve Arnold, the photographs were captured at the height of Monroe’s career. Six of the prints show the actress during filming of her last completed movie, The Misfits, in Nevada in 1960. [sjynews]
Stunt Pilot Plane Loses Wings In Mid-Air – This is the terrifying moment a pilot nearly lost his life after the wing of his plane snapped off mid-air. But Argentine pilot Dino Moline managed to activate the plane’s ballistic parachute – walking away from the crash with just a burnt foot. The 3,000 onlookers could only watch in horror as the wing snapped off his RANS Air Brigade Plane 1,640 feet above the ground – while it was upside down in the middle of a manoeuvre (it was inverted).
