Oscar Pistorius is currently out on bail of R1 million as handed down by Magistrate Nair on Friday in the Pretoria Magistrates Court, and will be charged with murder of Reeva Steenkamp. During Nair’s judgment on Friday afternoon, he listed a number of personal facts relating to Oscar Pistorius, including the net worth of his owned assets. And between Nair’s judgment, Pistorius affidavit, and previous comments made by Pistorius, a few things do not add up.
It has been reported that Oscar Pistorius, murder accused, bought himself a McLaren supercar as a Christmas gift to spoil himself for the” good year” he had during 2012. The supercar comes at the small fortune of R3,5 million. Pistorius told the Sunday Times:
I drive a McLaren – a gift I got for myself for this Christmas and the next one.
But, in the affidavit presented before the court on 19 February 2013 Pistorius listed the value of his movable properties to be just over R475 000. These movable assets include household furniture and effects, cars and jewelry. Which would lead you to believe that he either forgot about that R3,5 million supercar he bought for Christmas, or he deliberately lied to the court and everyone else. Alternatively, the McLaren could be a loaned or rented vehicle, in which case Pistorius is only guilty of massively misrepresenting himself to his fans and friends.
Or, perhaps the vehicle is entirely owned by a financing institution, and is not property of Pistorius at all?
Justin Divaris is the CEO of the Daytona Group and fought back on twitter claiming that it could not have been a sponsored car and that Pistorius purchased it. He also happens to be a well-known friend of Pistorius, and even went as far as to provide the court with a positive character witness of Pistorius during his bail hearing.
@mandywiener False. Oscar wasn’t sponsored by McLaren. He was purchasing a car like any other customer. McLaren do not sponsor cars.
