State prosecutors have confirmed that they will be pursuing life imprisonment for Pistorius, under a charge of premeditated murder.

Broader heads of argument will be unpacked after Pistorius’ bail hearing, but it is understood that the state will contend that Pistorius planned and executed the murder of Reeva Steenkamp by shooting her through the bathroom door of his Pretoria residence.

Upon hearing the charge, Pistorius broke down in a fit of tears in the dock.

Pistorius will be remanded in custody at the Brooklyn Police Station until the date of his bail hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday next week. The proceedings may continue until Wednesday next week. The state will be opposing bail for Pistorius.

In other news, Magistrate Nair has barred the media from filming and photographing the proceedings while the court is in session. For functional purposes, that translates to while the Magistrate is in the court room.
