The British firm behind the new SelectaDNA gun, Selectamark, has demonstrated how their new orange gun is capable of firing green (non-lethal) pellets that carries DNA traces.
After being shot, these traces lasts on a target for weeks, and can be identified via UV readers or sniffer dogs.
This makes it easier for authorities to place suspects at the scene of a crime several weeks after it happened. For instance, the device will come in handy during riots, because police can now “tag” troublemakers for booking later.
On contact with the target, the uniquely-coded SelectaDNA solution leaves a synthetic DNA trace mark that will enable the relevant authorities to confirm or eliminate that person from their involvement in a particular situation and could ultimately lead to arrest and prosecution.
Selectamark offers the gun in both pistol and rifle models, and claims it has a range of 30m to 40m. Check out a demonstration below:
