BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion is enjoying some motion ahead of the launch of its new phones and operating system: at least 15 000 new application submissions have been received to date.
January 30 marks the date on which RIM will launch BlackBerry 10. The date will see a worldwide launch with special events taking place in locations like Jozi, Paris, London, Dubai and New York.
They are promising big things and have already stated that at least 70 000 apps will be launched along with the new devices and operating system. On top of this, they have said that 90% of the top 600 apps in the world will be available for the new devices and will be supported in all major markets.
This is quite big for RIM, and is possibly why they have taken their sweet time with the launch of both the phones and the new operating system.
While BlackBerry doesn’t exactly enjoy the biggest market share in places like the UK and the United States, it does enjoy significant market share in other places like the Middle East and Africa where high data costs still remain a barrier to people looking to enter the smartphone market for the first time.
All these promises from RIM so far indicate that it now has a real chance at bringing itself back from near extinction, at least in some markets.
Do think BB10 is going to be a game changer for RIM?
