Searching For Sugarman Nails Critics’ Choice Movie Award

Shortly after recieving an Academy Award nomintaion, Searching For Sugarman nailed the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Documentary Feature, last night.

The film spotlights the fasciniating life and times of American singer/songwriter, Sixto Rodriguez, who enjoyed widespread fame and adoration in apartheid (and present-day) South Africa, and utter failure in the United States.

The narrative of the film is driven by a search for the musician initiated by ardent fan and friend of the vibe, Sugar Siegerman of Mabu Vinyl in Rheede Street.

It is an absolutely incredible story, and frankly we’re not at all surprised that it’s nailing awards. If you haven’t watched it already, you’re missing a trick.
