Cape’s most prestigious horse racing event, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is one of the most stylish events on the South African calendar, and, while quadrupedal contenders will compete for the R1 million prize, race-goers will be looking to land the honours of Best Dressed and the Best Hat.
Since the inaugural race in 1861, the event has followed a strict royal blue and white dress code.
This year the annual highlight of the Best Dressed and Best Hat competitions will be judged by the likes of Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan du Toit of KLûK CGDT , Elana Afrika, Catherine Moore, Shashi Naidoo and The Little Hattery’s Kerry Hillier and Dominik Marszalek.
The winner of the coveted Best Dressed title will win an Errol Arendz dress valued at R10 000 as well as an Elizabeth Arden hamper and L’Ormarins wine. The runners up will each win an Elizabeth Arden hamper and L’Ormarins wine along with Cartier fragrances.
Meanwhile, prizes for the Best Hat category will include pieces The Little Hattery, Elizabeth Arden hampers, L’Ormarins wine and fragrances from Cartier.
The running of the 2013 L’Ormarins Queens Plate takes place on 12 January at Kenilworth Racecourse. With celebrations set to continue into the night, the event will be the perfect place to share good wine with friends, enjoy the races and dance the night away.
