Tim Flach is a British photographer who is known for snapping incredible human-like photographs of animals. Going far beyond taking a simple photo, Flach also captures the emotions of wild creatures through intensely close-up shots.

Flach’s latest body of work is called More Than Human, and feature everything from a featherless chicken to a pair of affectionate chimpanzees. According to the photographer, these are meant to illuminate the similarities between animal poses, gestures, and gazes, and our own versions.

Apart from the lion above, more images from Flach’s latest series can be seen in the gallery below. All the animals were photographed on a set, as opposed to in their natural habitat.

To make the animals feel as comfortable as possible, Flach sometimes has to adjust the temperature of the studio or play a specific kind of music.

You can never predict an animal’s mood. So you have to plan beforehand to get what you want.
