Tommy Carrol has been skating since he was 10, but has been blind since the age of two. The guy has an incredible amount of talent. Most of us could hardly go down a straight road on a board, with both eyes wide open.

This video was posted late last year, but started to make the rounds online yesterday. Carroll, a sophomore at Northwestern University, was born with a retina cancer that blinded him by the age of 2. This disability would stop most people from doing a lot of things, but not Tommy. No, Tommy decided he would learn to skateboard.

As Carroll explains an interview with Tony Hawk, when he skates a new spot he slowly familiarizes himself with each aspect of the skatepark. He’ll use his senses to feel out his surroundings, and after a certain number of runs he says he usually feels comfortable enough to begin trying tricks.

“I think everybody should know that everything happens for a reason,” Carroll says in the video. “And that there’s always a way to overcome an obstacle if you really want it enough.”
