A photo of an Indochinese tigress shaking herself dry has been crowned the Grand Prize Winner of the 2012 National Geographic photography competition.
The news was announced yesterday, and the winning image was chosen out of 22 000 entries from 150 countries. It was taken by Ashley Vincent, of Chonburi, Thailand. Vincent won R86 000, as well as a trip to the magazine’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The contests also features several other prizes – spread across three categories: Places, People, and Nature. All the winners can be seen in the gallery below.
Some moments captured include women scavenging refuse from a landfill in Kenya, a full moon illuminating the Matterhorn peak near Zermatt, Switzerland, as well as a red fox hunting a mouse hidden under 60cm of crusted snow.
