Next Sunday, December 9, Derek Van Dam and team Wonderpillar will be competing in the inaugural Red Bull Flugtag event taking place at the Waterfront in Cape Town.
As Red Bull puts it:
[It] marks the end of aviation as we know it. Red Bull Flugtag is bringing self-accredited pilots to the V&A Waterfront to launch their team-powered flying machines off a 6m high ramp into the wavy waters below.
Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams of everyday people to build homemade, human powered flying machines and pilot them off a 6m high ramp in the hopes of achieving flight! Flugtag may mean “flying day” in German, but all these crafts ultimately splash into the waters below. They are judged not only on their flight’s distance, but creativity as well.
As far as creativity goes, someone leaked Wonderpillar’s design onto the Internet, and as you can see, there is some kind of Alice in Wonderland theme going on.
We can make out that there will be actual smoke rings, but we also think the butterfly wings may need improvement.
Luckily, team Wonderpillar has the endorsement of Kalahari.com, and their efficient service of making things appear quickly once ordered is surely something Wonderpillar are making use.
