So the Stormers are playing the Blue Bulls this weekend at Newlands. It’s all rather exciting and I have no doubt that our boys will take the crown – it’s just a matter of you putting off the positive energy they require to do it!
So about a week ago this photograph arrives in my email box. It was sent by a 2oceansviber with the words, “Oh my God!” in the subject.
“What’s the big deal?” I thought, as I recalled rugby clubs and training facilities that I had visited in the past. This is all pretty stock-standard when it comes to branding etc. I mean, apparently John Smit has a two-storey high poster of himself in front of his parking bay at the Sharks training ground.
Just remember this – you are ‘special’
and let let anyone tell you any different.
The email kept on appearing in my inbox and I continued to ignore it. That was until it was sent by 2oceansvibe Character, The Insurance Broker – AKA Richard W Neville. As a close friend and ex-digs-mate who lived with me and Stormer’s hooker, Pieter “The Little Pig” Dixon (AKA “The Hooker“), for a number of years, I value Richard’s opinion when it comes to rugby and quality humour. That, combined with the fact that he captained UCT 1st XV for a few years, and played for a few professional sides in the UK, including Saracens (who happen to having the most psychotic, weird fans in the entire premiership), suggested that I should be paying closer attention to this image.
That’s when it hit me.
And it hit me hard.
That was not a Blue Bulls training ground – that was someone’s house!
Because that my friends, is how the Blue Bulls fans roll.
We’ve got our work cut out for us this weekend – raise your game, fans – we can do it!
