50 000 Greek Protesters Demonstrate Against German Chancellor [GALLERY]

About 50 000 demonstrators defied a ban on protests yesterday in Greece to voice their displeasure with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She is currently in the country to meet with Greek leaders who are searching for a new package of budget cuts. They need this in order to secure bail-out funds - largely underwritten by the German taxpayer.

About 50 000 demonstrators defied a ban on protests yesterday in Greece to voice their displeasure with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She is currently in the country to meet with Greek leaders who are searching for a new package of budget cuts. They need this in order to secure bail-out funds – largely underwritten by the German taxpayer.

But clearly not everyone loves her, with many blaming her for pushing Greece even deeper into depression. Some protesters wore Nazi uniforms and others burned swastika flags. They were also joined by a naked guy. Some of the banners read: “Angela, Save the world, Kill Yourself” and “Out with the Fourth Reich”. Have a look at the gallery below for all the action.

The crowd was trying to break through a barricade set up to protect Merkel and her delegation, who were meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras at his office several hundred metres away. After her meeting, Merkel said she wanted to develop a deeper understanding of Greek conditions.
I am not a teacher to give lessons. I’m here to be informed, I know that changes are difficult to be implemented. I have come here today in full knowledge that the period Greece is living through right now is an extremely difficult one for the Greeks and many people are suffering.
