Facebook announced today that it now has more than one billion users around the world. Although there might be a few made up accounts in that number.
Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement, saying the new milestone for the world’s largest social network is “humbling”.
This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honour of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
Mark told the NBC Today show that the milestone “unbelievable”.
To be able to come into work every day and build things that help a billion people stay connected with the people they care about every month, that’s just unbelievable.
Along with the announcement came some impressive figures: the billion users are responsible for 1,13 trillion “likes”, 219 billion photos, 17 billion location check-ins, 600 million users now access the site via a mobile device, and that since the Harvard University days, Facebook users have befriended each other 140,3 billion times.
