There are half a billion Android devices worldwide. You have to believe that Google is planning to, at some stage, release Google TV for Android.
They’d be smart to release it sooner rather than later too. But it’s a process I’m sure they’re working on.
They’ve just signed ESPN onto their upcoming TV service that uses Internet infrastructure – Google Fiber.
You can already watch TV on the greater portion of the Android operating platforms, and according to Android stats, that’s a lot of people.
Now ESPN has joined the networks that will be available on Google Fiber TV. Yesterday Google confirmed that it also has a deal with the Disney networks, which include “ABC Family, Disney Channel, ABC New Now and SoapNet, among others.”
According to Ad Age:
It also announced four other new channels for its lineup: Ovation, TBN, TBN Enlace and Discovery Communications’ Velocity.
Nabbing ESPN, which was one of the biggest gaps in the available channels, comes a few days after Google Fiber also secured NFL Network.
Google Fiber ended its pre-registration in Kansas City, the first area to get the service, on Sunday. Google will compete in the area against established cable operators Time Warner Cable, AT&T and SurWest Communications.
While Google Fiber has about 200 channels, networks like HBO, Fox News, TBS and AMC are still noticeably missing from the lineup.
Current research indicates that 1,3 million new Android devices are activated every day, which can only bode well for Google.
