I’m not going to bore you with promo-speak and some kind of sales pitch. I’m going to give it to you straight – so listen up – please, it’s important. The long-time reading 2oceansvibers out there will know that I converted over to Apple Mac a few years ago and I swore never to go back to PC. I made that declaration after using a Mac for the first time – for just two weeks. This, after being the posterboy for PC since I was a kid. I didn’t want a Mac and promised to try one out on the proviso that I could give it back if I didn’t like it. The rest, as they say, is history.
But this week, something happened which I really need to talk about. It seems there is another chapter in this progression.
I have long lamented and maintain that I drain more resources on any computer than anyone I know. I firmly believe that my needs are above average and, as a result, I have often mumbled, “one day they will make a computer that can work as fast as I do / need to.” Now while my previous Macs have certainly outperformed any PC I have used, there were always those ‘moments.’ Because no matter how much memory you’ve got under the hood, or how many gigahertz you’re pumping out, the combination of Dreamweaver, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Aperture, Quicktime, Final Cut, various web browsers (I’m always testing) iTunes and whatever else I use during the course of a day, WILL lead to a ‘moment’ from time to time.
Until now. No longer do I have to think before opening another big piece of software. No longer do I have to wait for software to load. Absolutely NOTHING takes longer than 2 seconds to open (or fully close). No longer do I have to wait for the machine to think before switching fully from one piece of software to another. No longer do I have to plan ahead when shutting down – it just shuts down when I ask – immediately. This is truly the only computer I have ever used in my life which can keep up with my demands. I am completely and utterly in awe.
And that’s before I even start to discuss the retina display. The first thing I did when I got the machine was search for ultra high res images, so I could show off the display. But then, after a few days it occurred to me that there was something more at play. The menus alone are too beautiful for words. Now when I show off the screen, I just tell people to have a browse through the menus. My god – it’s like paging through a glossy magazine. You just don’t see pixels anymore. The icons are so crisp and defined, you honestly need to see it to believe it.
Take that, plus the performance and the fact that it is so thin and light you can carry the thing by its corner – with the screen open – around the house and soon you will realise that you have truly reached the holy grail in computing.
The hard drive is like those found in the new Macbook Airs ie. solid state – no moving parts – like a flash drive. It’s ridiculously fast and light and the battery life is something ludicrous like 7 hours. Honestly – it’s too much.
This is the ultimate laptop and if you have the means and the desire to do things as best as possible and to experience the very limits of personal computing, get yourself one of these – please.
Go to Digicape and have a little perv at the new Macbook Pros here (I got the one at the bottom on that screen – naughty).
Mention 2oceansvibe and you will be very well looked after.
