Last night saw the opening ceremony of the Paralymic Games in London. Professor Stephen Hawking took centre stage and led a host of deaf and disabled artists, local children and performers newly trained in circus skills.
Sir Ian McKellen also acted scenes from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Boris Johnson was clapping like a maniac, and a 430-strong deaf choir sang God Save the Queen. And yes, she was also there.
