Yesterday was Women’s Day, and I took The Muse to The Mount Nelson for a spot good old fashioned leisure. While we were there relaxing, as one does, on a public holiday, I was taken by a sudden enthusiasm to plan – in meticulous detail – the rest of the weekend. I stretched my arm down, felt the familiar edges of the iPad, and turned to the Go! Travel app for the task.
Last week I told you about the amazing Go! Travel app for iPad, (which is a free download in iTunes, nogal), and about how absolutely blown away I was by what it’s capable of. And let me tell you, I still can’t believe its powers.
I was vaguely aware that the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair was happening this weekend (9 August through 11 August), and it dawned on me that a nice scenic drive wouldn’t hurt, with a spot of food and wine, of course.
So here’s what The Muse and I will be doing this weekend:
On Saturday morning, we’ll head out on the N1 from The Safe House, and make our way to the Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market on the Oude Libertas Estate. There, we’ll sample some breakfast and have browse the wares. I may even pick up a genuine Cuban fedora from the hat lady.
Breakfast will be good…
From there, we’ll get onto the R44 toward Somerset West and stay on it as we hug the coast, taking in the stunning scenery that will take us past Pringle Bay in the direction Hermanus. We’re going to make use of one of the sightseeing suggestions that the app gave us, and visit the Hangklip Lighthouse. It was built in only six days, and guards the entrance to False Bay.
A spot of sightseeing won’t hurt…
After that we’ll continue along the R44 and head straight to the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair. For the night, I’ve selected the Lavender Manor Guest Lodge from the suggested accommodation for Hermanus.
Quite a mean looking vibe
Sunday morning will see us take a northerly direction along the R43 until we join up with the N2. Elgin is our destination for the day, where we’ll get onto the Elgin Wine Bus, and enjoy a driver-guided journey through the award winning vineyards and fruit orchards of the Elgin Valley.
The only kind of game drive I’m really interested in.
For the night, the Old Mac Daddy, in the heart of the valley, will be our abode.
How’s that view?
Then we’ll be up early on Monday morning, and back onto the N2 and over Sir Lowry’s Pass back toward Cape Town.
Because that’s how we roll, courtesy of the Go! Travel app, of course. Don’t forget the app is a free download in the iTunes Store. You know what to do.
