One of Cape Town’s most beloved fundraising events will once again take place on Table Mountain in May.
The Cableway Charity Challenge 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, 10 May 2025, and hosts and organisers, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC), call you to be a part of the action by cheering on participants, pledging your support through generous donations, and enjoying a day on the mountain.
On the day of the Cableway Charity Challenge, individual athletes, schools and corporate teams will hike Platteklip Gorge as many times as possible between sunrise and sunset to raise funds for four beneficiaries: Ubuntu Football, Funda Kunye, Volunteer Wildfire Services, and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR).
“We invite all South Africans to rally behind the participants, encouraging them to push their limits to maximise the impact for our chosen charities.”
Since its inception in 2009, the Challenge has raised millions for local charities and the TMACC is proud to host the event once again and urges the public to support participants as they strive to reach the R1 million fundraising goal on the day.
“The Cableway Charity Challenge is a highlight on the city’s trail running calendar. We are proud to host this incredible initiative,” says Selma Hercules, Executive Director at TMACC.
“It is inspiring to see participants push themselves for a good cause, and we encourage the public to join us in cheering them on. Once again, we are excited to have our teams taking part in the corporate challenge, as we do each year, showing our commitment not just as hosts, but as active participants in making a difference.”
The public can show their support by pledging funds to a participant of the Challenge, making a general donation, or simply joining in the excitement on the day.
The Cableway Charity Challenge is open to everyone, from experienced athletes to first-time hikers. TMACC invites the public to be part of this special event by showing up, cheering, and making a difference.
How to get involved:
- Pledge funds to a participant or make a general donation to the cause.
- Come to Table Mountain and cheer on the climbers as they take on this tough challenge.
- Take the cable car to the summit and enjoy the walking trails while supporting participants.
