At least six people are feared dead, and another nine have been injured after a tourist submarine sank off Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
Of the approximately 40 passengers aboard, 29 were rescued, with the injured being transported to local hospitals, according to the BBC.
The submarine, “The Sinbad,” sank near the harbor in Hurghada, a popular tourist city on the Red Sea famous for its beaches. The sub has been in operation for several years, with the company boasting of owning two of just “14 recreational submarines” in the world.
The vessel, which can dive to a depth of 25 metres, offers breathtaking views of coral reefs and marine life, according to the Sinbad Submarines website.
It’s the second incident in the Red Sea in around six months.
Last November, a boat named Sea Story carrying more than 40 people also sank near the Egyptian resort of Marsa Allam, with 11 people unaccounted or presumed dead.
