Two jets from the French Air Force’s aerobatic team collided near an airbase in northeastern France on Tuesday, leaving three people unconscious.

The Alpha jets collided near an airbase west of Saint-Dizier, as confirmed by the French Air and Space Force to AFP.

Two pilots and a passenger ejected from the aeroplanes and were “found conscious,” the Force said. AFP reported that one person sustained multiple injuries, but there were no civilian casualties. One of the downed jets struck a silo, triggering a fire.

The aeroplanes involved were part of the Patrouille de France, the precision aerobatics demonstration unit of the French Air and Space Force.

This incident follows closely on the weekend’s fatal crash of an Impala Mark 1 aeroplane during a display on Saturday at the West Coast Airshow in Saldanha.

Both the French Air and Space Force and West German Air Force use the Alpha Jet in large numbers, the former principally as a trainer jet and the latter choosing to use it as a light attack aeroplane.
