Two Separate Views On Where We Stand In A Very Confusing Year [Video]

The truth depends on who you listen to.

There has been a definite mood shift in South Africa’s relationship with the USA, and the world for that matter.

Recent conversations around the braai seem as polarising as the media that reports it. If you ask CNN, Trump and Musk are busy with a coup, if you ask Fox News, the duo will save America from the abyss that “Dirty Joe” drove them into. The truth depends on who you listen to.

More recently, South Africa has been dragged into the whirlpool of misinformation and outright bullshit that dominates headlines. Musk is miffed with our BEE policies and Trump reckons white people in South Africa are under attack while the government pushes for Zim-style landgrabs. Afriforum got caught crying wolf, John Steenhuizen walked a tightrope between the DA’s white and black supporters and even Malema looked up from his Breitling to spew hate on everyone, including the rats who jumped from his sinking ship.

We are as confused as the refugee hopefuls queueing at the American Embassy and liked it much better when US politics only had Americans hating each other. So, what is going on, and where does South Africa stand in this new age of chaos?

If you’re looking for answers, we don’t have any, but Alec Hogg recently posted videos to BizNewsTV’s YouTube page with two guests who seem to have views that perfectly sum up the opposing opinions of South Africa.

On the one hand, public intellectual Paul Mashatile has a message “for those seeking context on the chaos being wrought by political leaders who are wanting.” On the other hand, Rob Hersov “shares his perspectives on the ‘real’ SA and faith, renewal and conservativism” during the recent ARC Conference in London.

It might not give one clarity on whether we’re doing okay or completely f*cked, but it’s probably worth listening to both of these men. Thanks Alec!
