A 32-year-old Gauteng man landed in hot water after allegedly posing as a hitman hired to take out top government officials.

Ndumiso Bhengu has been charged with intimidation and extortion and appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Thursday following a December investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime team in Pretoria, News24 reports.

According to spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Singo, Bhengu was calling high-profile folks in government and the private sector, demanding money to spare their lives.

Bhengu allegedly called high-profile individuals, claiming he was paid to kill them only to then demand between R5,000 and R10,000 to “call off the hit.”

At least one victim reportedly paid, while others spent thousands hiring round-the-clock security.

The Hawks eventually tracked Bhengu to Evaton, where he was allegedly running his dodgy operation. When they nabbed him on Tuesday, they found burner phones and six SIM cards, including those that were allegedly used to contact the victims—classic scammer vibes.

Now he’s behind bars, and the case has been postponed to 6 February for a final bail application. Seems like this “hitman” hit a serious legal wall.
