A harrowing video capturing a woman being rammed into a wall in the Western Cape has ignited outrage on social media.
The 43-second clip, timestamped just after midnight on January 4, begins innocently enough: a woman sits alone on the pavement, seemingly unaware of the danger that looms.
Twenty seconds in, the calm is shattered as an MK1 Golf suddenly appears, reversing at an alarming speed. Without hesitation, the car veers off the road, mounts the pavement, and crashes into the woman, slamming her through a concrete wall. The impact is devastating.
The vehicle pauses briefly before the driver shifts into first gear and speeds away, leaving devastation in their wake. The woman, clearly in excruciating pain, attempts to move but appears paralysed from the waist down.
The chilling footage, captured by a nearby home’s CCTV, has racked up over 130,000 views, sparking outrage and speculation among social media users. While some claimed the woman had lost her legs, these rumours were firmly debunked. Miraculously, she survived the ordeal and is now recovering at home.
The Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident via IOL:
“The matter you are referring to is a reckless and negligent driving case registered at Cloetesville police for investigation. The incident occurred on January 4, 2025, at about 12.33am in Sederburg Road in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch. The investigation continues with no arrest as yet,” van Wyk said.
Despite the overwhelming response to the video, the motive behind this brazen attack remains a mystery. The incident has left the community reeling as they demand answers and justice for the victim.
