Why The Internet Is Losing It Over Meta Removing Tampons From Men’s Bathrooms Ahead Of Trump’s Inauguration

Meta appears to be all-in with the incoming Trump administration after news surfaced of several policy changes at their offices. It was the removal of tampons and sanitary pads from men’s bathrooms, however, that seems to have drawn the biggest response from the internet.

With Donald Trump preparing for his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, it feels as if the tech giants that surround and support him are following suit with a return to more conservative policies and ideas.

According to The New York Times, facilities managers at Meta’s Silicon Valley, Texas, and New York offices received instructions to remove period products that had previously been offered to non-binary and transgender employees. According to sources, the move was part of Meta’s larger plan to align its internal policies with the expected principles of the new political leadership.

The company has made a number of changes recently, including removing transgender and nonbinary ‘customisation choices’ from their Messenger software and amending its ‘Hateful Conduct’ standards. Meta has also done away with its fact-checking program, which is similar to what Elon Musk has done at X. Instead, the company said it would rely on a community-based notes system.

Zuckerberg, who seems to have been carefully crafting a more human persona in the last few months with sun-bleached hair and Insta reels showing him doing human stuff, has defended Meta’s embrace of MAGA ideas.

Saying that the company’s content moderation practices had become ‘overly restrictive’, Zuck wants to ease restrictions across all Meta’s platforms, giving an open mic to people who reckon there are links between mental illness and being gay or transgender.

In short, the proposed new guidelines will allow users to freely express their dislike of different races, religions, and all the letters in LGBTQ, as well as the +.

While Alex Jones might be cheering, employees of Meta have not taken to the new direction as enthusiastically, with reports that the @Pride group, which advocates for LGBTQ+ issues at Meta, is up in arms. Several employees have also reportedly handed in their resignations, and there will likely be more.

It’s a strange new world we’re rushing into in 2025, and most of the planet will be keeping an eye on what the next four years of Trump will mean for us all. What happens in the US tends to ripple to the rest of our beleaguered planet, so it’s not just America that’s getting the MAGA treatment. Trump has been stewing in his ‘I should have’ juices for four years now, and unlike his last term, he’s planned for this one.

Both Musk and Zuckerberg seemed to have drunk the cool aid, and between them, they control almost all of social media. To the average conspiracy theorist, it might even seem as if Musk has been tasked with taking the bat to foreign nations that Trump either doesn’t like or wants to control, whereas Zuckerberg gets to deal with the gays and queers.
