This Cape Town Restaurant Sizzles On TimeOut’s List Of The World’s Best Steaks

Ah, Cape Town! Not just a pretty face with its killer views and lekker vibes—now it’s showing off with one of the world’s best steaks. Another notch in the belt for the Mother City, hey?

But here’s the curveball—it wasn’t one of the usual suspects like Nelson’s Eye, Hussar Grill, Belthazar, or Butcher Shop & Grill. Nah, the honour goes to a bit of a dark horse.

Rolling in at number six on Time Out’s global list of top steaks is IRON Steak and Bar. Yup, that Bree Street gem!

The Bree Street restaurant is known for its use of the Spanish Vulcano Grez grill, which delivers a perfectly charred and smoky flavour to its steaks to make your taste buds do a happy little jol.

“IRON Steak and Bar has stood out for its unique blend of modern décor and a traditional approach to cooking exceptional cuts of meat,” writes a review.

The flat iron steak is IRON’s pride and joy and the best meal in their lineup. But don’t stress if you’re counting your ZARs; their Summer Special’s got your back. For just R185, you get beef-dripping popcorn to kick things off, a 200g grass-fed steak with salad, and then finish it off with salted caramel ice cream, which you get a chip for redeeming whenever you want.

Feeling a bit flush? Go big or go home with the Tomahawk—a proper showstopper of a bone-in rib-eye that’s worth every cent.

And let’s not forget the sides. Think truffled leek mac-and-cheese and Wagyu dripping fries that are so good, they’ll have you licking the plate like it’s your last meal.
