These White Christmas Cocktails Are A Fun Way To Celebrate The Festive Season, Summer Style

Basically, your Christmas trees and stoeps aren't the only things getting lit this season.

Christmas can be confusing for us Saffas down in the south, where the weather outside is lovely, not snowy like it’s depicted in seasonal movies and songs.

The northern hemisphere dominates the festive season vibes, which can make a person nostalgic for a cosy Christmas around the fire, with a hot choccy to keep warm as the snow tumbles down outside and Santa makes his way in the cold to deliver prezzies.

Even though we love our December on the beach, there’s something about a white Christmas that is very alluring.

Our thinking is to make up for this with some delicious spins on classic cocktails. This is like the equivalent of a snowman built out of sand on the beach, the slops and socks of swigs, a pina colada for a hot day but snowy-fied, hot and cold holding hands for merrymaking.

Basically, your Christmas trees and stoeps aren’t the only things getting lit this season.

Introducing the White Christmas Mojito:

While we won’t be getting actual snow here in South Africa, this White Christmas Mojito will probably make up for it. To turn this classic summer drink into a holiday star, add coconut cream to create that frosty, snow-topped vibe, and pomegranate seeds as a bright and festive garnish. It has all the refreshing flavours of the classic mojito, with a sweet holiday twist.

You’ll need:

  1. 60 ml coconut cream
  2. 45 ml (approximately 1 and 3/4 shots) white rum
  3. 12 fresh mint leaves, plus 1 sprig for serving
  4. 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
  5. 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  6. Ice (amount as desired)
  7. Fitch & Leedes Soda Water
  8. Ice and pomegranate seeds, for serving (as desired)

Directions:

  • Step 1: in a blender, blend cream and rum until frothy (you can also use a handheld mixer).
  • Step 2: in a Collins glass, muddle mint leaves, lime juice, and sugar. Fill the glass with ice, pour the cream mixture over, and top off with Soda water.
  • Step 3: garnish with mint sprig and pomegranate seeds.

No matter how much you wish for it, Santa will not be stocking your bar this season. But Fitch & Leedes totally will – you just need to head over to Takealot and order your mixers of choice, to be delivered by one of their little elves on a scooter, right to your door. That’s something like Santa, right?

Speaking of Santa, the next cocktail in the lineup is something inspired by his alleged home.

Introducing North Pole-adas:

While some are in the dead of winter pretending they’re on the beach sipping on Piña Colada, we can actually be on the beach sipping these festive North Pole-adas.

You’ll need:

  1. 60 ml coconut milk
  2. 60 ml pineapple juice
  3. 120 ml frozen pineapple
  4. 120 ml prosecco
  5. shredded coconut and lime wedge for rimming

Directions:

  • Step 1: place the shredded coconut on a plate. Rim two champagne flutes with a lime wedge, then dip into the coconut.
  • Step 2: in a blender, add coconut milk, pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and prosecco. Blend until smooth.
  • Step 3: pour the mixture into rimmed glasses.

Now it’s time to turn the favourite wintery treat of frozen hot chocolate into a cool martini. Who needs a warm fire place and a spiked hot chocolate when you have hot sand to warm your toes and a frozen hot chocolate martini to cool down?

Since we’re thinking about Arctic creatures and delicious drinks, don’t forget that Fitch & Leedes has a new Pineapple Lemonade out to save the penguins.

That’s right, the bespoke mixers company, in collaboration with The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), is championing a cause that is close to the hearts of many Saffas: the conservation of the endangered African Penguin.

Take part in preserving the future of these adorable little wobblers through adoption, donations, or simply raising a glass. Every can you buy supports vital conservation efforts for African Penguins.
