The City of Cape Town is gearing up to give Muizenberg beachfront a much-needed facelift, with spades set to hit the sand by mid-February next year.
We’re talking major upgrades here—revamping public amenities and finally replacing those tired old seawalls. If everything goes according to plan, the whole shebang will be wrapped up by the end of 2026.
Meindertjan Rebel, Project Manager for the Muizenberg beachfront upgrade, says the 22-month construction timeline is designed to keep things running smoothly to minimise disruptions to the area so visitors and surfers can still access the beach, per Primedia+.
“February is a good time to start considering the holiday season and how busy Muizenberg is getting,” explains Rebel.
Alderman Andrews emphasised the City’s commitment to minimising disruption, per Cape {town} Etc.
“We are engaging with local businesses, residents, and other stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed about the project and how it will be phased. We are setting up forums for ongoing dialogue and will closely monitor the progress of the work to keep things on track. We ask for the community’s support and understanding during this time.’
They’re already chatting to stakeholders, local business owners, and the community to keep everyone in the loop about the timelines, potential headaches, and what’s being done to smooth things over.
The work will roll out in phases, starting with the western stretch of Surfer’s Corner near the railway line. And don’t stress—the beach will stay open and accessible throughout. Just mind the crazy traffic, and the dust and keep the gees going.
The upgrades are set to jazz up Surfer’s Corner, focusing on the western stretch of the beachfront along Beach Road. This includes sprucing up the link to the St James walkway, giving the Surfer’s Corner steps a proper refresh, and revamping the main promenade. Even the informal gravel parking by the railway line and the eastern parking area are getting some TLC.

It’s going to be a proper makeover—Muizenberg style.
