Poland’s Prince Stash: From Tripping With Pink Floyd To Becoming A Social Media Star At 82

The dread-locked, tech-averse octogenarian might look more like a hippie at a trance party, but whether he’s opening the rooms of his 1,200-year-old Tuscan castle or telling stories about dropping acid with Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett, he flies his freak-flag with pride.

We tend to think of the monarchies as all stiffened up with pomp and ceremony, but the playboy prince of Poland, Stanislas Klossowski de Rola, is a different kind of regal.

While his nobility seems a bit iffy, the son of renowned Polish-French modern artist Balthus claims to be descended from Poland’s mediaeval aristocracy and has recently earned newfound celebrity by sharing his elegant tale on TikTok and Instagram.

Pedigree aside, the 82-year-old has enjoyed a charmed but convention-defying trajectory: being discovered by Luchino Visconti and whisked off to the Cannes Film Festival with Fellini as a teen, getting busted with Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones in his 20s, and providing creative fuel for Gucci in his 70s, when he was cast in one of the brand’s fragrance commercials.

These days he is known as Prince Stash to his legions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, where he has become a social-media darling.

Describing his own style, Prince Stash says he embraces “Sheer eccentricity, a bit in the traditional English way, but more than your continental European.”

“In the ’60s, Brian Jones and I were known for our sartorial extravagance… We just went and shopped for women’s clothes, if they could be adapted to resemble sort of medieval tunics and so on.”

His brush with fame has left him with a great love for music, and the prince admits he has instruments throughout his castle.

“It’s a gift, my form of meditation, and a direct feed into the absolute elsewhere as a being. “

At 82, Prince Stash might just be the coolest thing on TikTok. You can also check out some of his other crazy stories on Instagram.
