The bodies of two Gauteng women who were reported missing after an apparent home invasion at their farm in Eikenhof have been found inside an abandoned mineshaft.
Hester Flemming, 52, and her mother Cecilia Johanna Flemming, 82, were attacked at a farm on Caymen Road in Eikenhof, near the Eye of Africa estate on Saturday.
A desperate search for the women, led by private investigator Mike Bolhuis, was launched and social media was flooded with images of the missing women.
Police have confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the murder after being found in possession of items belonging to the victims.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo told The Citizen that three more men have been taken in for questioning over the house robbery, kidnapping and theft of motor vehicles.
Bolhuis said since they were reported missing every lead was pursued and countless hours were dedicated to the case.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform the public the women were found deceased,” said Bolhuis late on Monday afternoon. “We want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time.”
