The Prince of Wales will be flanked by several famous faces when he travels to Cape Town, South Africa, for the Earthshot Prize Awards.

The dynamic awards ceremony on 6 November will be hosted by the award-winning actor and singer Billy Porter and renowned TV personality Bonang Matheba, while supermodels Heidi Klum and Winnie Harlow will announce the winners across Earthshot’s five prestigious categories.

William founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020, an ambitious project that annually presents five category winners with £1 million each to scale up the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges.

This year’s event in Cape Town promises to continue the momentum of the project, following successful ceremonies held in Singapore last year, Boston in 2022, and London’s Alexandra Palace in 2021.

The prince announced the 15 Earthshot Prize finalists for 2024 in a video uploaded onto social media, and they look world-changing.

American-German model Heidi said “As someone who uses my platform to advocate for a better future for our children, I am deeply inspired by The Earthshot Prize’s ambition to find and support solutions for a healthy planet.

“I am so happy to be a part of the incredible evening the Earthshot Awards has in store to celebrate innovators and encourage our youth to be part of building a better future.”

If the awards ceremony is on November 6, does that mean there is time for Heidi to squeeze in dressing up as a worm or a peacock ensemble for her fav holiday, Halloween? We want it all!

Back to Earthshot. Ahead of the bash, Earthshot Week will celebrate the 15 finalists from across the globe, with actor and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha serving as host across a series of events, alongside fellow Earthshot Global Ambassador, Robert Irwin.

Robert, who is the son of the late Steve Irwin, said ahead of the event:

“Alongside my family, I have dedicated my life to conservation. I am beyond proud to be an Earthshot Global Ambassador and to help progress its urgent and ambitious approach to finding the most innovative solutions to the world’s biggest environmental challenges.

“The Earthshot Prize is one of my favourite moments to celebrate these innovations every year, and I am very excited to help bring this year’s Earthshot Week to life in Cape Town.”

The night will shine with special performances by Afrobeats sensation Davido, Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz, the iconic DJ Uncle Waffles, and Grammy Award-winner Lebo M, celebrated for his vocals on The Lion King soundtrack, accompanied by the vibrant Ndlovu Youth Choir.

That’s quite the lineup.

While the Princess of Wales – who recently announced completing her course of chemotherapy -joined her husband at the inaugural awards in London in 2021 and in Boston in 2022, she is not expected to travel to South Africa with William this year.

While she may need to stay behind to help her children complete exams or something of the sort, she may also still be feeling slightly too unwell to travel.

Anyway, we look forward to seeing what William and his star-spangled peers will get up to in the Mother City, as well as who they’ll award to put Earth back on a better course.
