Good thing too in this heat and wind. Summer is here, and so is fire season, unfortunately.

UPDATED: The word is that the fire at the Lower Cable Car station might have been caused by a Lithium battery.

According to reports, about 400 people are still stuck on top of Table Mountain. Plans are being made to get them down safely.

Those of you who heard sirens racing up Kloofnek Road today might have seen the smoke, but for those on the southern side of the city, the Table Mountain Cableway’s lower cable car station seemed to have been on fire around noon today.

A video went bouncing around town earlier, but fortunately, by the time anyone could ask whether it was real, the fire was contained. So far, there hasn’t been any word on what caused the fire.

Table Mountain Road was closed for the emergency, so if you have the afternoon off, it’s best you go to the beach.

Good thing too in this heat and wind. It’s not even the only fire today, as earlier, Signal Hill also had a blaze going. Summer is here, and so is fire season, unfortunately.

thanks dean!
