A road trip through the peaceful valley of Franschhoek is long overdue, and this weekend offers the perfect excuse.

The Franschhoek Classic Car Festival will once again transform the Western Cape town into classic car heaven on Saturday and Sunday in a rare showcase that classic car lovers don’t want to miss.

The weekend also sees the return of the ‘Forty of the Finest’ exhibit, featuring 40 iconic pre-1995 cars from 40 different brands.

Old school petrolheads can also visit the Alfa Romeo exhibition which opens at Franschhoek Motor Museum on Saturday and showcases more than 150 cars from the Italian maker. For those who appreciate a bit more grunt power, the 60-year Ford Mustang anniversary will also be on display.

Tickets to the festival are only R200 for both days and if you can drag your kids away from their Xbox, kids go in free. For more information, check out the Franschhoek Classic Car Festival website.

Franschhoek is, of course, synonymous with vintage vehicles, and is the home of The Franschhoek Motor Museum, which is located on the Rupert family-owned L’Ormarins wine estate.

Johann Rupert, CEO of the luxury goods business Richemont and an obsessive vehicle collector, created the museum in 2004, and the impressive collection of cars has since become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Western Cape.
