Prince William has dropped hints about a potential visit to South Africa this November, just as his brother, Prince Harry, arrived for his own solo tour of the region.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official social media account, @KensingtonRoyal, posted a message saying: “There are just five weeks to go until we’re in Cape Town for the fourth annual @EarthshotPrize!”
The tweet, which was accompanied by a video of William discussing the Earthshot Prize alumni, featured an enthusiastic sign-off: “Can’t wait to be in South Africa this November #EarthshotCapeTown.”
Despite the buzz, the announcement fell just short of confirming whether William (or Kate) will actually make the trip in person, Express UK points out.

However, as the driving force behind the Earthshot Prize, William has indeed attended every award presentation since its inception, so it is likely we will be graced by his royal presence.
“The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William in 2020 to search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges,” says the initiative’s website.
This year’s event in Cape Town promises to continue the momentum of the project, following successful ceremonies held in Singapore last year, Boston in 2022, and London’s Alexandra Palace in 2021.
The prince announced the 15 Earthshot Prize finalists for 2024 in a video uploaded onto social media. In it, he said that each of the 15 finalists is in the running to receive five £1 million prizes, which will be awarded at The Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony in Cape Town on Wednesday, 6 November.
The event will also feature Earthshot+, a day of discussions designed to maximise the impact of the prize winners and finalists.
Although the Earthshot Prize has always been a joint endeavour, it seems Princess Kate won’t be accompanying her hubby to South Africa this year.
Granted, the Princess of Wales is recovering following her recently completed cancer treatment.
And while she did not attend the awards in Singapore last year due to family commitments, she was present at the events in 2021 and 2022, showcasing her commitment to the cause. I’m sure she’ll be here in spirit.
See you on the flip side, William!
