Gauteng police escorted a suspected drug mule to the hospital on Sunday, where she was administered laxatives to expel 60 packets of suspected cocaine.

This followed an airport X-ray at OR Tambo International that revealed foreign objects lodged in the 30-year-old female’s stomach. The Citizen reports that the Namibian woman was caught after getting off a flight from Sau Paolo, Brazil.

The South African Police Service, SARS customs and immigration officials were following up on intelligence from SAPS of a drug mule that would land from Sau Paulo at about 07:25.

“The team immediately intercepted the drug mule as she was making her way through immigration,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

She was arrested on the spot and taken to a local hospital where a medical x-ray confirmed and detected foreign objects in her stomach.

Now under police guard and custody, the mule needs to poop out the bullets of white powder.

“The process to release the suspected drugs from her body is underway. She has already released more than 60 bullets of suspected cocaine thus far.

“The value of the drugs cannot be determined at this stage as the process to release all suspected drugs from the suspects body may take some time.

How someone can hold that amount of drugs in their system is crazy. Just remember how your white lines arrived next time you lean in for a sniff, sickos!

This arrest comes days after a Nigerian drug mule was caught at the same airport. After landing in Johannesburg from São Paulo on 13 September 2024, the man handed an airport cleaner a pair of airline headphones.

“Suspecting that there was something amiss, the team opened the aircraft headphones and found cocaine stashed in the headphones,” said Mathe.

“The drug mule who claims he is a street vendor in Nigeria claims he was in Brazil to buy clothes and shoes which he sells in his home country – police are investigating this aspect – to prove that this may be used as a decoy by this drug trafficker.”

Mathe said the woman with over 60 bullets lodged in her innards is the tenth drug mule to be arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in the past two months.
