Apple packed in a lot of product news to its Glowtime event today (September 9), introducing us to a new iPhone lineup, the latest Apple Watch Series 10 and new AirPods wireless earbuds.

The iPhone 16 lineup undoubtedly stole the spotlight at the event, as CEO Tim Cook proudly proclaimed that these new devices were crafted “from the ground up” with cutting-edge Apple Intelligence features in mind. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch 10 is set to make waves with a larger size and a groundbreaking feature designed to detect sleep apnea.

Apple is also refreshing its earbuds collection with two enticing versions of the AirPods 4—one boasting active noise cancellation for immersive sound and another for those who prefer a more open listening experience.

While some anticipated announcements failed to materialise, Apple did unveil the striking new satin black Apple Watch Ultra 2. In addition, the AirPods Pro 2 are receiving exciting new features focused on enhancing hearing health, while the AirPods Max are now available in an array of vibrant new colours, adding a fresh flair to their premium design.

Don’t forget that when it comes to all things Apple in South Africa, Digicape, the country’s largest independent Apple retailer, is the place to go. Digicape offers trade-ins (aka, you can sell your old Apple goods and use the money to finance a new product), business rentals, personal, business and educational training, as well as expert in-store support.

Back to Glowtime, there’s almost too much to track when it comes to these big events, but Mashable helped us out.

Apple Watch Series 10

The tech giant unveiled the latest edition of its beloved smartwatch, now featuring sleek black and rose-gold colourways. Apple touted the Series 10 as significantly lighter and thinner, all without compromising on performance. Plus, it boasts an improved speaker, perfect for those who enjoy blasting their tunes straight from their Apple Watch.

What’s super nifty is that the new watch is getting a sleep apnea feature. An undue amount of people suffer from sleep apnea and don’t know it, but now the sleep apnea detection feature will help people stay on track with their breathing at night. It will also be available for Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models.

AirPods 4

Apple introduced the highly anticipated AirPods 4, offering an entry-level model alongside a variant equipped with active noise cancellation. The company emphasised that the AirPods 4 are designed for enhanced comfort and, as expected, deliver significantly improved audio quality. With advancements aimed at minimizing background noise, these earbuds promise a superior listening experience.

The real story here is that is a $179 (around R3,200) model that offers active noise cancellation, transparency mode and adaptive audio. The entry-level AirPods start at $129 (around R2,300).

Apple also announced AirPods Pro 2 would get new noise-protection features and a feature that allows them to become a hearing aid.

Now, for the part we’ve all been waiting for: the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

There are some big updates, including new colours, increased brightness, AI developments, and the customisable “action” button we first saw on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple revealed that the iPhone 16 will feature the suite of AI tools first showcased at WWDC 2024. What does this mean for users? You’ll be able to create new emojis, receive AI-generated summaries of your emails, and even enhance your Slack messages with AI assistance. For all the details, head here.

Apple also announced a new button that promises to make photography more intuitive.

Apple, as expected, announced the updates to its premium phones –  the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max – and promised to deliver bigger screen sizes, longer battery life, and improved camera performance.

You can pre-order your new iPhone 16 from September 13 in South Africa, so head over to Digicape while stock lasts.

Oh and hey! Apple didn’t make a big deal of it, but the lightning cable is dead. Every device at the event on Monday used a USB-C charging port, completing the process of the company aligning with European Union regulations.

One cord can now charge pretty much all of your devices. Finally.
