Jeff Bezos has splashed out a cool $80 million (R1.4 billion) for a new Gulfstream G700 – his fourth private jet.
Although there are other planes in his hanger, the G700 is not just another toy. The luxury business jet is manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace and is considered one of the largest and most advanced private jets in the world, capable of flying at just a fraction under the speed of sound at Mach 0.925.
Streaking across the sky at this speed, passengers can enjoy the view through twenty panoramic windows and a “whisper-quiet cabin with 100% fresh, plasma-ionized air replenished every two to three minutes”.
The G700 is, in fact, so luxuriously dear that even Goldman Sachs abandoned plans to buy one last year.
The G700 blasted off from Ibiza last Sunday, the same day as Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez were spotted on the island next to the billionaire’s $500 million superyacht.
The new jet is sure to upset carbon-watchers who recently revealed that Bezos’ plane made 28 flights in 39 days — leaving a carbon footprint of 264 tons, or 17 times what his average countrymen emits in a year.
The news of Jeff’s carbon footprint was revealed by Jack Sweeney, the college student who has previously raised the ire of celebs like Taylor Swift and Elon Musk by publicising their flight details. The same thorn in their side also posted details about the new G700.

The pricey plane will however not dent Bezos’ piggybank too much as his net worth was valued by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index this past Wednesday at $203 billion. That’s still behind Elon Musk, but what’s a few billion between rocketeers?
If the price for a G700 still seems excessive, watch the below video, and tell us you wouldn’t buy it if you had Jeff’s moola.
